New pollinator garden at McLarty Education Centre provides habitat for essential pollinators
The Pine River Watershed Initiative Network (PRWIN) invites you to check out the new pollinator garden at the McLarty Education Centre.
The watershed network expressed special thanks to Christine and Jim from the Ripley and District Horticultural Society for leading this initiative that will provide habitat and food sources for pollinators.
Pollinators are essential for food and survival.
Pollinator species include bees, flies, moths, butterflies, wasps, some beetles, and hummingbirds.
About three quarters of flowering plants and most of our fruits and vegetables depend on pollinators.

There are more than 4,000 species of pollinators in Canada but their populations are threatened.

Pollinator gardens use a variety of flowering native species of plants upon which these pollinator species rely.
There are many pollinator plants you can consider for your garden but some include Butterfly Weed and Joe Pye Weed and Dense Blazing Star.
